Life is'nt about waiting for the storm to pass..its about learning to Dance in the Rain! This is original artwork done with fine liner pens on paper. And there's a story behind it, read on..
Last year my city, Madras (India), was hit by freak rains followed by floods. The worst happened over night. Absolutely nobody predicted.. or was prepared for just how bad it would be. Many areas had water come up to the first floor of their buildings. With people stranded, No electricity, No phone signal, No drinking water, Loss of homes/ property/ cars etc, and with schools/ offices/ shops shut for over a week.. its needless to say, it affected everyone!
I was most INSPIRED watching people from the city and neighboring cities, rise to the occasion. Almost instantly groups set up centers across the city, collecting and distributing blankets, drinking water, basic utilities, food packets, medicines etc. There were people driving around/ even using boats on the flooded streets to rescue others. I honestly haven't seen FB/whatsapp be put to better use. People from far and wide reached out with funds and relief materials. While nobody can undo all the loss people endured, it was most heartening to see PEOPLE rally around each other to win over a natural calamity and really SHINE!
While I sat down to draw my annual holiday artwork, it seemed instantly appropriate to draw a Peacock. A bird that shows its true beauty, spreads its wings and dances in the rain/despite the rain.. just like the people who overcame all the odds and helped one another, like I have never seen before! AND, thats the story of how my doodle peacock was born.
If you love sending out personal holiday cards/gifts like me, from home or your office; here's one with some Indian flavour and heart! :)
